The Murchison Earthquake : Events in New Zealand History

Boon, Kevin

Series: Events in New Zealand History
Notes
The Napier earthquake of 1931 received world wide publicity and it was, and still remains, New Zealand's most disastrous earthquake, both in terms of loss of life and damage to property. But few people realise an equally strong earthquake occurred only 19 months earlier, on June 17, 1929, centred near the tiny settlement of Murchison in the Buller district. This book examines the Murchison earthquake.
