COVER : When Kiwi were abundant a century or two ago, white kiwi made up about one per cent of the population, and their feathers were prized for the contrast they provided on the cloaks of brown kiwi feathers. This young female was photographed on Little Barrier Island, and is thought to be a daughter of an albino male which has been known on the island for several decades.
