A Treaty was signed at Waitangi on February 6, 1840, between 46 local Maori chiefs and Captain William Hobson, who represented Queen Victoria and the British Government. To commemorate this important event in our history we celebrate Waitangi Day every year. This book looks at the background to the Treaty and its signing, as well as some of the people involved such as James Busby, Henry Williams, William Colenso, Hone Heke, Kawiti, Tamati Waka Nene. The articles in English and Maori are also outlined.
