This book is intended to provide a useful resource for the New Zealand Social Studies programme. By comparing past and present photographs, the readers are encouraged to develop skills of observation, ask questions and discuss ideas. Past and present photographs of the Richmond area of Nelson are used to compare how society has changed in New Zealand towns during the past one hundred years. Comparisons include houses, schools, hotels, shopping, the police, the fire brigade and transportation.
