Women flooded out of their houses, hammering for all they were worth on kettles, buckets, pans and drums, screaming and howling at the tops of their voices. “Press-gang! Turn about!” It is a stark existence for the families on Burning Mountain, whose daily business is the creation of alum crystals to fix dyes.
