Owl

Orwin, Joanna

Notes
At last - a New Zealand novel that merges fantasy and history with today's reality. Hamish (nicknamed Owl) discovers some ancient Maori rock paintings on his family's farm. Soon sheep on the farm start being attacked by something very large and vicious - and Hamish, his siblings, and a part-Maori boy called Tama realise that the rock paintings have come to life, freeing a pair of extinct giant eagles. The youngsters must re-enact a Maori legend to save their farm... Suspenseful, good characterization, and very well plotted.
