Notes
The resource package “Guided Reading” has been developed to help teachers, especially teachers of years 1 to 4, to use the guided reading approach effectively in ways that will help their students to achieve literacy success. The package comprises two videos, an audio CD, and a book. The videos each show an experienced teacher taking a guided reading session with a group of students: in one video, a year 1 group and in the other, a year 3 group. The teachers discuss these guided reading sessions and describe how they plan for guided reading in their classroom programmes. The audio CD provides examples of students reading Ready to Read and Junior Journal texts aloud. Teachers can listen to these examples to hear the different ways in which different children may read the same text and also examples of how the same child may read four different texts. The book describes the guided reading process and explains how to use it with young learners. Although it covers the aspects of guided reading illustrated in the videos, but it is a stand-alone resource for teachers, providing explicit and detailed information about this approach to teaching reading. The teachers' book can be ordered separately (item 26667).
