It’s not that the new rules are hard to understand - Gavven just doesn’t see why the Whiteshirts want to change every part of his life. Why won’t they let him be friends with whomever he chooses? Why do they insist on telling him where to live? And why do they think they can tear his family apart? Terrified of disobeying the Whiteshirts, Gavven is even more afraid of losing one of the most precious things he still has - the freedom to think for himself.
