Based on a true story of Sadako Sasaki (1943-1955), who suffered leukaemia as a result of radiation from the bomb dropped on Hiroshima in Japan. Today, she is heroine to children in Japan who visit her memorial in Hiroshima Park to leave the paper cranes they have made in her honour.
