The year his mother died and his father withdrew into himself, Sandy’s bad behaviour at school gets him into trouble and he is sent to live with his unusual relatives on a Taranaki farm. Feeling lonely and depressed, he makes friends with Pimpernickle, the resident pig. When a flood hits at a school camp, Sandy discovers strengths he wasn’t aware of, which help him to realise he can take some control of his life.
