Series: My New Zealand Story
Notes
Much to her annoyance, Amy’s parent have agreed to sail a yacht back to New Zealand from Vanuatu, and Amy is taken out of her Auckland school and shipped off to stay with her great-aunt and uncle on their Gisborne vineyard. Surprisingly, Amy enjoys country life with its daily chores and tending to the animals, and even attending the local country school is quite fun. However, as reports of a deadly cyclone thrashing the Pacific filter through, Amy is worried about her parents and the lack of communication with them. But then the cyclone changes tack, and her world - and that of all those around her - is about to change in the most drastic manner. Cyclone Bola strikes, sending the area into chaos. Amy doesn't hear from her parents for weeks and fears they are lost at sea. Gisborne is ravaged by the cyclone and afterwards there is much work to be done clearing up. Amy stays on and helps the community and her family on the vineyard. Her parents eventually return and the family is reunited.
