Growing up in 1970s Hamilton, Jackie Simms is sustained by two great loves : the Swedish supergroup Abba, and her older brother's best friend, Davey. Unfortunately, ABBA seems determined never to visit New Zealand, and Davey hardly knows she exists. To make things worse Jackie’s brother won’t stop going on about his upcoming scenic flight over Antarctica. How boring can you get? Only when she is roller-skating does Jackie feel truly happy. But as she grapples with life on the brink of teenagehood, she is unaware of the fate that looms, silent, white and deadly, for someone close to her.
