This board book is about Matariki, the Maori New Year. The kohanga reo invite kaumatua to celebrate Matariki with them. A kaumatua explains what Matariki is all about. At the end of the day they give each kaumatua a gift of food. This book highlights the importance of our kaumatua (elders) and the knowledge they have to share. These books are intended to support levels 1 and 2 of the recently launched Te Aho Arataki Marau mo te Ako i Te Reo Maori - Kura Auraki / Curriculum Guidelines for Teaching and Learning Te Reo Maori in English-medium Schools. They are suitable for use with junior tamariki who are beginning to use te reo Maori. The teacher notes include translations of the text, links to the Curriculum Guidelines, lesson ideas and activities, assessment help and other useful information.
