Hooked on Statistics is designed to complement your classroom numeracy programme with user-friendly activities that develop students’ data handling skills. Each section of activities uses real-world contexts that encourage students to collect, explore, present and interpret data. Specifically they: introduce questioning and methods of data gathering; introduce different ways to present data; present data that students are required to interpret; suggest ideas for statistical investigations; present probability problems in a range of contexts. Task cards encourage exploration and discussion. In completing the activities, students will apply knowledge and strategies gained through numeracy teaching, in particular fractions, percentages and ratios.
